What is Electrolysis?

Electrolysis is a process of permanent hair removal, involving the conducting of an electrical current through a sterile disposable probe which initiates a chemical reaction that permanently destroys hair follicles. The process was invented in 1869 by American Ophthalmologist C. Michel, MD and since that time withstood numerous double blinded clinical trials that proved it to be the only safe and permanent method of hair removal. As of today there are three methods used for electrolysis:

THERMOLYSIS - high frequency electrolysis in which hair root is destroyed by heat.

GALVANIC - direct current electrolysis in which hair root is destroyed by chemical action.

BLEND - combination of the two methods above. All modalities are safe safe and effective. Your electrologists will choose the one that is the best for you.

F.A.Q.

  • Why do I have this hair?

Factors that contribute to the growth of the hair are: heredity, psychological stress, topical irritants (tweezing, waxing, shaving etc.), normal or pathological endocrine function. Medication.

  • How should I choose an electrologist?

You should ensure that your electrologist went to reputable school, licensed or Board Certified, complies with sterility requirements and has ample experience . Works closely with dermatologists and plastic surgeons, up to date in the field.

  • Is it painful?

Level of discomfort varies from person to person, however it is typically less painful than waxing or tweezing .

  • Will it work?

As of today, electrolysis has been recognized and proven in numerous scientific studies to be the only method of hair removal which is permanent and free of side effects.

  • Is laser or any other treatment as effective as electrolysis?

Although laser is fast and can cover large areas, it lacks permanency, shouldn't be used on face and ineffective on lightly colored or gray hair. Unlike electrolysis laser only works on dark hair on fair skin. Electrolysis has been scientifically proven to be the only permanent method of hair removal regardless of skin color or hair type.

  • How long does it take?

The length of the treatment schedule is affected by: previous methods of hair removal, skin irritation, hormonal influences, area being treated, intensity, and regularity of treatments.

HOWEVER, ELECTROLYSIS GUARANTEES THAT EACH DESTROYED FOLLICLE WILL CEASE PRODUCING NEW HAIR.

  • What areas of the body can be treated?

Hair can be removed from almost any part of the body, however hair inside the nose and ear canal must be treated under the direct supervision of a physician, which we can provide . Hairy moles can be treated with written permission of your physician. Pregnant women should avoid treatment on their breasts and abdomen in their third trimester.

  • I met Nelly right after my engagement , 13 years ago. All I could think of is how am I going to tweeze my hair in front of my husband? Where I can hide? How much earlier should I wake up in the morning to be able to sneak into the restroom to clean my face? We started with weekly 1 hr treatments and by the time of my wedding I was a ones a months quick clean up. I come for my maintenance appointments ones a year now, just to check and to chat. Nelly gave me my confidence!
